Last week Willow Creek Tree Farms had the opportunity to help out Oak Ridge Golf Course.  They have some beautiful Colorado Blue Spruce and Austrian Pine trees that are about 18 to 25 feet tall. We had some fun in our February sunshine picking up the tree “plug” — driving it across the course while it was still in the spade — then putting it down in its new hole that had been pre-dug.  Big trees like these needs to be uprooted, moved, and transplanted in one operation with the tree fixed in the spade.  If it is removed from the spade, a wire basket for the root ball is needed. For trees of this size, the cost can be around prohibitive — about $500 for a temporary basket!
